Welcome to Silje Haugen. Silje works as a paramedic, and her shift schedule gives her plenty of free time. The desire to use this time in a meaningful way led her and her partner, Ola Bjerkås, to embark on an exciting journey. In 2021, they began designing their own custom-drawn modernist house. The home is situated in idyllic surroundings on Aspøya, with a stunning view over Tingvollfjorden, where Gjøco AS can be seen on the opposite side.

In 2023, the modern 255-square-meter house was completed. The young couple has realized their dream of owning their own home, investing millions into the project. The result is a unique residence that reflects their personal style and passion for architecture.
At a time when more and more young people are choosing to move to cities and rural areas are experiencing a steady population decline, this couple dares to invest in a large, modern home in the countryside – a refreshing contrast to today’s housing trends.

“Here, we have the freedom to do exactly what we want, without neighbors to consider, and no one telling us we can’t use the chainsaw whenever it suits us,” says Silje. “And the space,” she adds, “it’s truly something special. Fresh air, a unique view, and great hiking opportunities all around us. Both indoors and outdoors, we have plenty of room.”
Silje and Ola have created a modern dream home with warm, muted earth tones. “Earth tones are a fantastic way to create a calm, timeless, and exclusive atmosphere,” says Silje. She has a strong interest in interior design, and the entire journey—from getting their plot approved to having the furniture in place—has been documented on her Instagram account, Villalarsnes.
