The company was started as early as 1940, and since then, with production and finished inventory, has been localized to Torvikbukt Nordmøre.

In 2004, the subsidiary and manufacturing company established in Gjøco AB Perstorp in South of Sweden.
In recent years Gjøco AS had significant growth. Now the company stands as the second largest producer and marketer of decorative paints for houses and homes. With full-range, Gjøcomix color break system and all necessary sales aids covering Gjøco AS the requirements of Norwegian painting shops.
